Our vision is to produce healthy, nutritious eggs while caring for our animals, our land and ourselves.
We bought our farm in 2016 off the back of a flippant remark I made to Steve that went something like, "I think I'm ready for some more land".

At that time we were living on a 5 acre block just out of Albany, in a beautiful home that Steve had built for our family, working busily on our public servant careers. We had children to raise, a mortgage, chooks, ducks, sheep and dogs.
The farm Steve found online was a deceased estate, neglected and a bit sad. It had an impressive junk yard, a once magnificent orchard, lots of remnant vegetation, no standing fences, no power and no drinking water. What it did have was an asking price that was within our reach, good soils and fairly reliable rainfall.

For the next few years, Steve dabbled with growing garlic and hay, in-between his day job, and all the other demands of family life. He tidied up some paddocks and rolled up rusty fencing lying all over the place. We visited for family days, but never had the time or resources to do much else.

In 2021, Covid gave us an opportunity to reassess, and in November 2022 we sold what we thought was our forever home in Albany, and moved to Borden!

We had been tossing around the idea of pastured eggs for quite some time prior to that, but 450 hens, times 3, on a 5 acre block was never going to work. Not so on a few thousand acres.
We now have 3 chicken caravans in production, and are busily establishing The Blue Egg, in local businesses around Borden, Albany and Denmark. We love supplying to our local communities.

We feed our hens a certified organic feed mix, because we want to create a product that we are confident is healthy for us, our animals and our customers.

Pasture improvement and soil health is a big focus. We know the health of everything on the farm begins with the soil, and we are learning how we can care for it. We are not conventional farmers and do not use chemicals or synthetic fertilisers.

As part of this vision, we have begun to apply Biodynamic preps to our property, and have taken the first tiny steps on a long road of learning in Biodynamics and regenerative farming practices.
